Career Highlight: Selected to represent the State of New Hampshire in teacher cadre for NASA's Classroom of the Future program.

Challenge

To acquire technological skills in order to lead teaching with technology in the State of New Hampshire and assist NASA in developing software for classroom use.

Action

  • Shared educational practices with 50 other educators to gain understanding of our nation's progress in providing adequate training and access to technology in the public school system.
  • Compared and contrasted Math and Science curriculum goals as they related to each state's guidelines as well as National Standards.
  • Participated in software development and lessons for the software programs, BioBlast and Astronomy Village (Middle School Version).
  • Earned 14 credits toward Master of Science degree by completing ten courses, both on-site and distance delivered, through NASA's Center for Educational Technologies.

Results

  • Gained clear understanding of theories behind instructional materials production and the application of information technologies in education.
  • Applied technology tools to enhance learning and teaching in school district.
    • Provided high-quality professional development activities for teachers
    • Implemented new paradigms for developing students' problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
    • Engaged in educational research, design, and evaluation.
